How to Crochet an Evil Eye Keychain

The evil eye (nazar) is a lucky little charm. It is worked in simple rounds of single crochet, changing colour for each ring of the eye, and the same motif works as a keychain, a finger ring or a patch on a bag. (Crosia se evil eye keychain kaise banaye)

The written steps are a quick guide to the method. Anjali's exact stitch counts and colours are in the video.

What you need

  • Black, light blue, white and navy blue yarn
  • A crochet hook to suit your yarn
  • A key ring
  • Scissors and a yarn needle

Step by step

  1. With black yarn, make a magic ring and work 6 single crochet into it. Pull it tight: this is the pupil.
  2. Change colour (for example white or light blue) and work 2 single crochet into every stitch (12 stitches).
  3. Change colour again: *1 single crochet, 2 single crochet in the next* all round (18 stitches).
  4. Finish with a navy blue edge: *2 single crochet, 2 single crochet in the next* all round (24 stitches). Add another increase round for a bigger eye.
  5. For a double-sided charm, make two circles and join them with single crochet around the edge.
  6. Chain a small loop at the top, fasten off and attach the key ring (or sew the eye onto a ring base or a bag). Weave in all the ends.

Tips

  • Six increases per round keep the circle flat.
  • Change colour on the last step of the previous stitch for a neat line.
