How to Crochet a Heart Shape (Easy for Beginners)

What you need

• Red, pink or white yarn
• A crochet hook to suit your yarn
• Scissors and a yarn needle
• Optional: fibre stuffing for puffy hearts, a key ring

Step by step

1. Mini heart (no magic ring): chain 4 and join with a slip stitch to make a small ring.
2. Into the ring, work one side of the heart: a few treble and double crochet for the rounded top.
3. Work the point at the bottom: a treble crochet with a chain on each side.
4. Work the other side to match, in reverse: double crochet, then treble crochet.
5. Chain 2 or 3 and slip stitch into the centre of the ring to make the dip at the top. Fasten off.
6. Bigger flat heart: work a round of single crochet around the edge, with extra stitches on each curve and 3 stitches into the point.
7. Puffy 3D heart: make two small stuffed bumps, join them into one round, then decrease evenly down to the point, stuffing as you go.
8. Weave in the ends, then sew the heart onto a bag, card or rakhi, or add a key ring.

Tips

• Pull the starting ring tight before you go on so there is no hole in the middle.
• Stitch the dip at the top firmly so the heart keeps its shape.
