How to Crochet a Strawberry: Easy Tutorial for Beginners

What you need

• Red and green cotton yarn
• A crochet hook to suit your yarn
• Fibre stuffing (fiberfill)
• A yarn needle and scissors
• Optional: a key ring or bag clip

Step by step

1. With red yarn, make a magic ring and work 6 single crochet into it. This is the pointed tip of the strawberry.
2. Increase slowly to make a cone: spread a few increases around each round rather than six in every round.
3. Keep increasing every other round until the strawberry is as wide as you want, then work a few rounds without increasing.
4. Decrease over the last rounds to close the top, stuffing firmly as you go.
5. Fasten off and pull the opening shut with the tail.
6. Leaves: with green yarn, make a magic ring and work small pointed leaves around it (chain a few stitches, work back down the chain, slip stitch into the ring).
7. Stem: chain a few stitches from the centre of the leaves and slip stitch back. Sew the leaves onto the top of the strawberry.
8. Optional: embroider small seeds with yellow or white yarn, and add a key ring.
