What you need
- Soft wool or acrylic yarn in two colours (for the stripes)
- A crochet hook to suit your yarn
- A measuring tape, to measure round Kanha ji's head
- A yarn needle and scissors
- Lace, beads or a small feather to decorate (optional)
Step by step
- Measure round Kanha ji's head so the pagdi fits. The video makes it for a 12 no. Laddu Gopal.
- Chain to that measurement and join into a ring, taking care not to twist the chain.
- Work rounds of single or half double crochet to build the band, changing colour every few rounds for the stripes.
- Shape the pagdi as shown in the video, building height at the front and folding it into the turban shape.
- Fasten off, weave in the ends and stitch the shape in place.
- Decorate with lace, beads or a small feather.
- Shoes: crochet a small oval sole, work the sides up from it, then close the top, following the second class.
