How to Crochet a Flower Rakhi

What you need

Cotton yarn or thread in bright colours
A small crochet hook
A pearl or bead for the centre
Rakhi thread (twisted cord)
A needle, or a little glue, and scissors

Step by step

Make a magic ring and work a small round of single crochet into it.
Petals: in each stitch of the next round work a small group of taller stitches (for example chain 2, 2 double crochet, chain 2, slip stitch), making five petals.
Fasten off and weave in the ends. Add a second, smaller layer of petals if you like.
Sew or glue a pearl in the centre of the flower.
Stitch the flower to the middle of the rakhi thread through the back of the flower.
Knot or finish the ends of the thread so it can be tied.

Tips

Fine cotton thread and a small hook make a dainty rakhi; thicker yarn makes a bold one for kids.
Make several flowers at once in different colours, then pick the best ones for the rakhis.
