The written steps are a quick guide to the method. Anjali's exact stitch counts and colours are in the video.

What you need

  • Yarn in your rose colour (red, white, pink or yellow)
  • Green yarn for the leaves
  • A crochet hook to suit your yarn
  • A yarn needle and scissors
  • Stem wire and green yarn or tape, if the rose is for a bouquet

Step by step

  1. Make a foundation chain for the petal strip, as long as shown in the video for the size of rose you want.
  2. Work back along the chain in groups of stitches (for example shells of double crochet) so that each group forms one petal.
  3. Make the petals a little bigger towards the end of the strip, so the outer petals open wider than the centre.
  4. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
  5. Roll the strip up from the small end, keeping the bottom edge level, so the petals spiral into a rose.
  6. Sew through all the layers at the base with the tail so the rose holds its shape.
  7. Crochet one or two green leaves and sew them under the rose. For a bouquet, fix the rose onto a stem wire wrapped in green yarn.

Tips

  • Roll the strip loosely for an open rose and tightly for a bud.
  • Use the same yarn and hook for every rose in a bouquet so they match in size.

Which yarn is best for crochet roses?

A smooth acrylic or milk cotton yarn in a medium weight is easy to work with and gives neat petals. We sell Ganga, Anchor and Vardhman yarn if you need some.

How do I turn crochet roses into a bouquet?

Make several roses and leaves, fix each rose on a stem wire wrapped in green yarn, then group the stems and wrap them in paper or cellophane with a ribbon.

Can I order ready-made crochet roses or a rose bouquet?

Yes. See the crochet roses (AC-F12) and the potted rose (AC-F10) in our product catalogue, or ask us on WhatsApp for a bouquet in your colours.
