How to Crochet a Hair Scrunchie

What you need

• A plain hair elastic (rubber band)
• Yarn in one or two colours
• A crochet hook to suit your yarn
• A yarn needle and scissors

Step by step

1. Attach the yarn to the hair elastic with a slip stitch.
2. Work single crochet all round over the elastic, packing the stitches close together so the elastic is completely covered. Join with a slip stitch.
3. Ruffle round: work several taller stitches (for example 3 double crochet) into each stitch so the edge starts to frill.
4. For a fuller scrunchie, work a second ruffle round, in a contrast colour if you like.
5. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Tips

• More stitches in each stitch gives a fuller, curlier ruffle.
• Don't stretch the elastic while you work, or the scrunchie will feel loose.
